Its No Surprise to God || Living above fear

Prior to blogging about my faith, I was afraid.
I was afraid of what people would say or think. I overanalyzed and was paralyzed by the fear that people would judge me. I thought about a million possible things that people [especially those who have followed this blog from the beginning] would say about this sudden change.

I was like Moses [Exodus 4:1-10] telling God and echoing it to myself that I couldn't do it. I allowed fear hold me back. I was worried and so I stalled.

“I'm not worthy to share God’s Word, I'm very far from being a perfect Christian, I'm not qualified, It won't work, I'd lose all my followers, none may be desirous to know the reason and perhaps understand,  I'd quit soon, and many more were statements I made a thousand times over”

Eventually I came to the realization that I'm not perfect, I don't have it all together and all that matters is that I'm running for the finished line and my heart is focused on the goal [Philippians 3:12-14] hence I started and thankfully, it wasn't too late.

Many a time we let fear flood our thoughts and override our decisions till it’s too late.

We cannot control what we feel but it’s our actions borne out of the feelings that matter most. Fear is a feeling and we shouldn't let it control us. God knew that at some point we would be afraid which is the reason ''fear not" appears so many times in the Bible. It’s normal to be afraid, but when that fear becomes controlling, it becomes a spirit and there lies the problem.

There are so many things that make us afraid. No matter what name you ascribe to yours, it’s all fear. Some of us are afraid of failure but what if you knew you could not fail? [I'd leave you to think about that]. Some of us are afraid of death, but do you know Jesus has the keys of hell and of death?  [Rev 1:18]

“For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways” [Psalms 91:11].

Whenever we set out to do something, the first thing that easily comes to mind more often than not is "what if it doesn't work?" Why not start today with a mindset of "what if it actually does work", "what if I actually get accepted" “what if I pass that test”hence being optimistic.

All you need to do is to walk in the consciousness of the power you have in God and you'll see how weak the devil is.  Just a little faith is all we need [Luke 17:6] Faith, no matter how small would overcome every feeling of fear. But faith without work is dead. If you're not constantly teaming up with the Holy Spirit to battle fear, then Satan is most likely having a field day feeding on your fear.

God never promised the weapons wouldn't form,
He just promised they wouldn't prosper
[Anon]

The mistake we often make is that we pray to God that there shouldn't  be trials, problems, challenges and the likes so we are not prepared when they come. As a consequence, we become fearful and lack the knowledge needed to tackle the issues.

The other day I was going to submit a proposal and I kept praying for courage not to blow it and that God should favor me, “let them be nice”, etc. Whilst still afraid, I switched my prayer and asked God for the ability and grace to provide appropriate responses ‘cus I wasn't going to let fear hold me back’.

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. [1 Cor 10:13]

God Himself said we'll face trials but it won't be beyond our control for they are present to test our faith [imagine how pleased God would be with you, if you confront your fears boldly], so NOTHING THAT HAPPENS TO YOU IS A SURPRISE TO HIM. [1 John 3:20]  He knows it all and will deal with it appropriately, so why not trust Him to come through for you?

For God is greater than our worried hearts
and knows more about us than we do ourselves. [1 John 3:20]

Speaking boldly is one major way of overcoming fear, Even though your heart is racing, speaking out would let the devil know where you stand.

Let this be your daily affirmation
God is there, ready to help;
He is greater than my worried heart
I can do all things though Christ
I’m fearless no matter what.
Who or what can get to me?

  2. I've always been a strong believer in doing it afraid, as Joyce Meyer says. I choose to go on fearlessly despite fearful feelings. I wrote a poem on feelings once ----> Feel http://wp.me/p3oHjV-2b
    Nice write-up, Kunmi.

  5. Do you know the first statement you made on this post resonated with me so much? When I started writing my stories on wordpress and it felt like God wanted to push his way through the story, I wanted to push him back...lol #coversface. Because all I wanted to do was write a lovely romantic highschool story I've always dreamed of and being aware of a friend of mine who was an unbeliever was reading the story too, I started to wonder if I should just settle for God and no Jesus or something simpler so I won't offend anybody...

But I've come to realize that love does something. When you LOVE someone so much, you find it hard to keep it inside without sharing your faith. You're a light of the world, a city set on a hill cannot be hidden. I couldn't. I just couldn't and before you know it, He just took over and sometimes I doubt I can write anything without Him because His love can be so consuming sometimes. It's not easy to stand for God. Serious fear of what people will think and how they'll react but after a while, I just fashied and look that, Jesus boo, you and I are together jare. I'm advertising you on my blog hands down. Even when a friend advised me to take it easy with the 'Jesusy' stories and write something that everybody can relate to. I tried but I guess Jesus has got me hooked baby..wink**

Thank you for sharing this post with us Kunmi and forgive me for my long epistle. :)

  8. I remember this "tone down the Jesus" theme so well.
It was even said by well meaning folks. But they don't understand...
The psalmist said "I believe so I spoke"!
Even if I want to tone it down, I can't. Jesus is my all in all.
If I don't write about my faith, I can't stay sane. There's almost nothing else I canwrite about.
He is my muse. My inspiration. My writing anything at all comes from Him.
    I can't help it. I just cant.

I wrote about this in regards to shinning our lights last year.
    You can See it here
